Destiny 2
The lead up to the newest DLC, Shadowkeep, has me extremely hyped. I'm constantly watching videos by Aztecross Gaming and KackisHD about the changes coming to the game: new weapon meta, modding system for armor, new activities (yay for another dungeon) and the new finisher mechanics. Although busy, I'm definitely making time to prep for the new content between now and next week.
I mean just look at how hype this trailer is?!
Astroneer
This game sucked me in faster than a black hole. After watching my favorite Let's Play group, Achievement Hunter, play the latest release of the game I finally caved and bought it to play with my friend.
Unfortunately the computational resource allocation in game is terrible and the lag on Xbox One is abysmal, often frustrating my friend to the point of flat out restarting the game. Still, she and I can sit down and play for hours: complaining about the mess that is our base, exploring super far away in our constant need for some resource, and preparing to visit another planet in hopes of discovering something new. This game has been a great holdover until Shadowkeep drops.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
I can't say I've been "playing" this game per say, but it is definitely on my radar. Instead I've been living vicariously through a friend, learning about each character (Ashe is my favorite) and asking for updates on her progress.
I did play Fire Emblem: Awakening and can see a lot of differences between the game. One of the most jarring things for me is the 3D models. My friend loves them, but they seem too lifeless in their support cutscenes - I'll stick to the pretty sprite images used in Awakening. This game also made me appreciate the way supports worked in Awakening (Pair Up, S Rank Supports between all characters).
It's been enjoyable hearing how my friend is doing with the game nonetheless! She's aiming to complete all paths and then I can pick her brain.
Blackbox
Maybe it's foolish to allow this app to have access to all sorts of features of my phone, but my innate curiosity has me playing this game a lot. Having worked closely with my UX teammate, he and I found this app to be a great exercise in discovering what is accessible on a phone for applications to use.
It's a great study on the UX of phones and how to communicate functionality abstractly.
